Overview
Participants in Sustainable Building Design program at TU Berlin will acquire general knowledge and skills in the fields of sustainable building and building performance simulations. They will be able to gain a deeper understanding of the interactions between various factors when designing or conducting evidence-based analyses of a building's sustainability
Key facts
- The course consists of four main components. In a four-week course, one component per week is covered.
- The first component is an introduction to the class as well as the topic of transport and mobility. Students will learn about the societal role and challenges. Also, key terms, technical developments and narratives for sustainable mobility are covered.
- Secondly, the course includes the concepts and principles of inter- and transdisciplinary work. Topics are further the societal role of academic research as well as current challenges in this field that paved the way for inter- and transdisciplinary ideas.
- In section three, the mobility transition is assessed interdisciplinary. Key topics include social exclusion from a sociological and philosophical perspective and shared mobility business models from the perspective of management and psychology.
- The fourth part takes an in-depth look at transdisciplinary work as well as opportunities and challenges. The section also covers transdisciplinary research methods (e.g., real world experiments) and project examples.

General requirements
Participants of the TU Berlin Summer and Winter School must meet the following requirements: (i) B2 level English, or equivalent and (ii) at least one year of university experience.
- Basic knowledge of architecture and sustainable building practices aswell as a basic understanding of energy in the context of buildings can greatly enhance your understanding of the course material.
- The license for the simulation software (Windows-based) will be provided by the organizer. It is suggested to bring your own laptop(windows) to fully participate.
