About

Whereas Malmö University's previous courses are centered primarily in pedagogies of process, this Creative Writing Project course also emphasizes product, culminating in the production, or completion, of a substantial and polished project, such as a novella or brief short story collection for fiction writers or a chapbook for poets.

Overview

Key facts

  • Malmö University's Creative Writing Project project course in creative writing is based on the practice of intermediate to advanced creative writing craft skills.
  • Like most creative writing courses, it rests on the four pillars of writerly craft, literary analysis from a writer’s POV, language proficiency building, and self-expression.
  • As in its prerequisites, Creative Writing I and II, you’ll acquire extensive and various transferable skills.

Programme Structure

Course include:

  • Students select one genre (fiction, poetry, or literary non-fiction) as a primary focus and produce a substantial work in that genre.
  • On editorial practice: The student will be required to keep a writing diary, contribute online reflections on the course material, as well as present their mid-term findings at a ‘Work in Progress’ seminar.
  • Participation in a majority of class activities is a requirement for passing the course, and the basis for development of the student’s craft. See ‘Assessment 2’ below.
  • The course also provides an introduction to the business of publishing. The course concludes with the submission of a portfolio containing the student’s work for the term.
