Overview
The Climate Change - Carbon Capture and Storage Short Course from The University of Edinburgh aim of this course is to help you understand this technology objectively why it is so important in our efforts against climate change.
The amount of greenhouse gases our atmosphere can absorb is finite. Carbon Capture and Storage prevents carbon dioxide emissions from cheap, widely available fossil fuels entering the atmosphere, and stores them permanently and safely underground.
Taught by instructors with decades of experience in climate change and online learning, this course is a collaboration between leading experts in the University of Edinburgh and the Royal Scottish Geographical Society.
This course is also available in Chinese subtitles on Coursera and edX.
Coursera allows you to preview the first module for free - you can choose this option when you enrol or pay for the full course. edX allows you to access the course for free - if you want to gain a certificate you can choose to pay for the course.
What you'll learn
The course will teach you the key elements to help you better understand:
- How to protect the atmosphere with the technology of Carbon Capture and Storage, often called CCS, from an excess of carbon dioxide
- The fundamental drivers to make fossil fuels ‘safe to use’ in the context of the Paris Climate Change agreement of 2015
- Key sectors of the global economy where CCS can contribute to deep reductions in emissions
- The uniqueness of CCS to complement other low-carbon technologies
- The international state of play today and the scale of the industry in the 21st century
