About

Participants at the Working with Families at the University of Manitoba develop an understanding of systemic thinking and its application to working with families and explore a variety of therapeutic approaches and tools of intervention in family counselling.

Overview

The Working with Families involves different dynamics, therapeutic skills and interventions than those used for counselling individuals or working with groups. 

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this Working with Families course at the University of Manitoba, you should be able to:

  • develop a systematic view of how families function
  • identify effective tools, techniques and a model for working with families
  • explain an experiential conceptualization of family systems through personal family-of-origin work
  • identify individual behaviour within the context of the family
  • describe personal and family-of-origin issues that could be triggered by issues raised by a family in therapy
