What you will study
The CLASS (Classroom Assessment Scoring System) is an innovative observation tool designed to objectively assess classroom quality based on teacher-child interactions, developed by the University of Virginia’s Curry School Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning.
This CLASS Observation Training course offered by University of Melbourne is ideal for early childhood leaders and mentors who want to use this method to assess and improve teaching quality and foster better social, emotional and academic outcomes for students, as classrooms with higher CLASS scores are proven to do.
Learning outcome
During this course, you will learn how to effectively observe educator-child interactions and provide feedback that can help both new and experienced educators improve the learning and development outcomes of their students.
By the end of the course, you'll be able to:
- Collect CLASS teaching assessment data, which is the first step in improving the quality of educator-child interactions in the classroom
- Know how to use meaningful data on classroom quality to inform coaching interventions
- Conduct formal and informal educator observations
- Have a strong foundation for becoming a CLASS coach, including CLASS fluency.
