About

Building Information Modelling (BIM) in Design, Construction and Operations is fast becoming the industry standard approach to designing, analysing, and managing building lifecycle. UWE Bristol (University of the West of England) offers a course in Low-Zero-Impact Buildings.

Overview

Low/Zero-Impact Buildings assesses the role of BIM in designing and operating comfortable buildings that significantly reduce or eliminate energy use. You will evaluate low or zero-carbon and renewable technologies, apply BIM to evaluate buildings' environmental performance and explore the impact of Part L, BREEAM, LEED and EPC ratings.

Programme Structure

On successful completion of this module, you will be able to:

  • Critically evaluate the role of BIM to design and operate comfortable buildings that significantly reduce/eliminate energy use
  • Assess low/zero-carbon and renewable technologies
  • Apply BIM and low/zero carbon technology to evaluate building environmental performance
  • Evaluate, compare and select best passive solutions
  • Evaluate the impact of Part L, BREEAM, LEED, EPC ratings, and code for sustainable homes on Low/zero impact buildings
  • Apply BIM and building environmental tools to perform lighting analysis
  • Apply BIM and building environmental tools to perform thermal analysis
  • Draw conclusions on the developments of low/zero impact building on energy use, CO2 emissions, occupant comfort, light levels, and ventilation.

  • There are no formal entry requirements for participants wishing to undertake this course as a stand-alone CPD course without the optional course assessment.

  • If you wish to complete the course assessment you are expected to have a first degree at 2.2 level or above (or equivalent) in a related area or alternatively have relevant industrial experience in property.
  • If English is not your country's first language, you will be required to provide evidence to show you meet the University's minimum English Language requirements.
