Overview
The Mathematics for Machine Learning course from UCL Summer School will seek to cover the key tools (and theorems) within the topic areas, and to illustrate these with exemplars drawn from machine learning.
The module will be delivered through a mixture of lectures and classes, and will involve a mix of traditional lecture delivery, interactive notebooks and problem sets.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the module, students will have:
- Recognised and reproduced the key results of continuous mathematics required to engage with the study of machine learning.
- Recognised the key areas of machine learning.
- Combined and used the mathematical results to motivate a handful of core machine learning algorithms applied to these key areas.
- Judged the limitations of such algorithms where such limitations flow from restrictions imposed by the underlying mathematics.
- Applied the Python working environment associated with much of practical machine learning.
