Overview
The Mental Disorder and Psychological Treatment course from UCL Summer School introduces you to the clinical presentation, aetiology and diagnostic frameworks of various mental disorders. These disorders are examined through multiple perspectives, including developmental, sociocultural, neurobiological and psychodynamic approaches, to provide a comprehensive understanding.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the module, students will have:
- Discussed the clinical presentation, etiology and diagnostic frameworks for various mental disorders.
- Critically evaluated and integrated multiple perspectives in understanding mental disorders.
- Described the major psychological treatment approaches.
- Understood how research methods and evidence-based practices inform psychological treatment approaches.

- IELTS (Academic) at least 6.5 overall and 6.0 in each component or equivalent
- Some prior knowledge of mental health and an interest in developing a more advanced understanding, but applications are welcome from students from all subject backgrounds.
You will normally be able to demonstrate an average grade, or equivalent academic experience, of:
- 2:1 for most modules
- 2:2 for lower-level modules, if you are in or beyond second year at university.
