Overview
The Sustainable Cities and Societies course from UCL Summer School will introduce you to key concepts and open access data and tools for modelling and analysing building energy demand and occupant wellbeing at a large scale.
By the end of the module, you will be able to synthesise knowledge across disciplines to develop and evaluate strategies and comprehensive plans for sustainable urban living.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the module, students will have:
- Analysed the key causes and impacts of climate change on urban environments, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of relevant policies and their implications for sustainable development.
- Evaluated various strategies for reducing energy demand in buildings at urban scale, applying knowledge of energy resources and efficiency targets to real-world scenarios.
- Designed sustainable building solutions at urban scale by integrating principles of environmental design and operational efficiency with considerations for occupant health, comfort and productivity.
- Utilised Open-Access data and modelling tools, such as SimStock, to model and predict energy consumption and well-being outcomes in diverse urban settings.
- Synthesised interdisciplinary knowledge to develop and present evidence-based strategies for sustainable urban living, effectively communicating these strategies to both academic and professional audiences.
