Overview
Economics has become increasingly mathematical over the 20th century and now relies on sophisticated mathematical tools and techniques to solve economic problems.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the Mathematics for Economics course from UCL Summer School, students will have:
- Demonstrated familiarity with the mathematical methods widely used in economics.
- Computed optimal outcomes of simple economics models using mathematical tools.
- Applied mathematical methods and techniques to concrete economic applications.
- Formulated and applied elementary matrix algebra in a form suitable for solving concrete economic problems.
- Applied calculus techniques for solving elementary optimisation problems in economics.
Programme Structure
Courses include:
- Maths refresher
- Matrices and systems of linear equations
- Determinants
- Cramer’s rule
